It is interesting that some of the veterans on this list appear to have been discharged and then re-enlisted with slightly different information. It's hard to tell if this true, but it would be interesting to know and would speak volumes about the strong character and commitment of people toward achieving peace with their lives if necessary.

 

Arthur Pinney90 - a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Australian Air Force, service number 58044. Arthur was born on the 29th of March 1924 at Swan Hill, Victoria, AU. He enlisted in the Air Force on the 22nd of June 1942 at Melbourne, Victoria, AU. His next of kin is listed as Arthur Pinney and he was discharged on the 28th of March 1946 while serving with the 1st Aircraft Depot.

 

Arthur Joseph Pinney90 - a Private in the Australian Army, service number N202207. Arthur was born on the 10th of May 1914 at Temora, New South Wales, AU. He enlisted in the Army on the 6th of January 1942 at Temora, New South Wales, AU. His next of kin was listed as Monica Pinney and he was discharged on the 13th of December 1945 while serving with the 30th Australian Infantry Battalion.

Claude Pinney90 - a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Australian Air Force, service number 72929. Claude was born on the 24th of February 1919 at Temora, New South Wales, AU. He enlisted on the 17th of November 1942 at Sydney, New South Wales, AU. His nex of kin was listed as Gloria Pinney and he was discharged on the 29th of January 1946 while serving with the 99th Squadron.

 

Edward Dalton Pinney90 - a Private in the Australian Army, service number VX70304. Edward was born on the 14th of December 1913 at Yarraville, Victoria, AU. He enlisted on the 31st fo December 1941 at Caulfield, Victoria, AU. He was a survivor of the Great War, but died of an illness in Australia on the 16th of July 1940 at the age of 45 and is memorialized on panel 22 at the Australian War Memorial near Canberra, Victoria, AU90. Frederick was buried at Geelong Eastern Cemetery, Victoria Comp. 7 Grave 33. His residence was the Carlton Hotel, Malop St, Geelong, Victoria, AU.

 

Leonard Arthur Pinney58 - an Army Private in Regiment NX84382 and in the 19th Battalion of the Australian Infantry, AIF. Leonard was born on the 5th of July 1920 at Binalong, New South Wales, AU. He enlisted on the 17th of January 1942 at Paddington, New South Wales, AU. He lived in Marrickville and worked at Australian Woollen Mills. His next of kin was listed as Samuel Pinney90. He was Killed In Action in New Britain on Sunday the 11th of March 1945 at the age of 24 and is memorialized on panel 65 at the Australian War Memorial near Canberra, Victoria, AU. Leonard was the son of Samuel Thomas Pinney and Agnes Ada Victoria Pinney, of Binalong, New South Wales, Australia. Leonard is buried in grave D. C. 7 at Rabaul (Bita Paka) War Cemetery, Papau, New Guinea60.

He is listed as an Australian Military Honour recipient as follows: Date: Thursday, 14 February, 1946 Notes: MM 1946 NX 38335. 2/8 AUST CDO SQ59. This means he received the Military Medal on this date. The medal was awarded for "Outstanding courage at Jaba River, Makapeka Forks, Papua New Guinea. He was discharged on the 9th of May 1946 while serving with the 2/9 A FD Regiment. Peter had a sister listed as M. D. Pinney. Peter went on to write a number of books both on travel and fictionalized accounts of the war.

 

Raymond William Pinney90 - a Warrant Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, service number 409589. Raymond was born on the 21st of December 1917 at Footscray, Victoria, AU. He enlisted on the 12th of September 1941 at Melbourne, Victoria, AU. His next of kin was listed as Arthur Pinney and he was discharged on the 15th of May 1945 while serving with the 29th Operational Training Unit.

His next of kin was listed as Elizabeth. Clearly something is curious about this record, but it was listed by the Veteran's affairs.

 

Wilfred John Pinney90 - a Sapper in the Australian Army, service number NX98991. Wilfred was born on the 10th of January 1923 at Binalong, New South Wales, AU. He enlisted on the 3rd of December 1942 at Paddington, New South Wales, AU. His next of kin was listed as Samuel Pinney and he was discharged on the 11th of March 1947 while serving with the 101st Australian Army Troops.

 

William John Pinney90 - a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Australian Air Force, service number 118116. William was born on the 20th of April 1919 at Melbourne, Victoria, AU. He enlisted on the 2nd of September 1942 at Melbourne, Victoria, AU. His next of kin was listed as Lois Pinney and he was discharged on the 10th of December 1945 while serving with the 12th Squadron.

He died of an illness in Australia on Sunday the 6th of August 1944 in the 86 Camp Hospital Puckapunyal, Victoria at the age of 67 and is memorialized on panel 78 at the Australian War Memorial near Canberra, Victoria, AU. William was the son of Henry Edward Pinney and Mary Jane Pinney. William is buried in Section B, Plot F, Row A, Grave 12 of the Seymour General Cemetery, Victoria, Australia60.
