Robert Wake Pretor-Pinney was issued arms according to Burke's Landed Gentry 15th Ed.49 while living at The Grange, Somerton, Somerset, England. There is no indication of the date of issue for this armament. The blazon or heraldic description of this issue is as follows: "Arms- Quarterly: 1st and 4th, gu., three crescents or, issuing from each a cross-crosslet fitchee arg., for Pinney; 2nd and 3rd, or, an eagle displayed with two heads vert, beaked and membered gu., standing on a fasces ppr., and holding in each mouth a trefoil slipped of the second Crests - 1st, An arm in armour embowed, the part above the elbow in fesse ppr., the hand holding a cross-crosslet fitchee arg., for Pinney; 2nd, A demi-eagle couped or, wings endorsed sa. Semee of trefoils slipped of the first, and holding in the beak a trefoil slipped vert, for Pretor. Motto- Amor patriæ Seats-Somerton Erleigh, and The Grange, Somerton Somerset." The same issue was referred to in Armorial Families53 this time with an indication of a date of issue: "R.L., 22 Aug. 1877, H. Coll.). Quarterly, I and 4, gules, three crescents or, issuing from each a cross crosslet fitchee argent (for Pinney); 2 and 3, or, an eagle displayed with two heads vert, beaked and membered gules, standing on a fasces proper, and holding in each beak a trefoil slipped of the second. Mantling gules and or. Crests - I. upon a wreath of the colours, an arm in armour embowed, the part above the elbow in fesse proper, the hand holding a cross crosslet fitchee argent (Pinney); 2. upon a wreath of the colours, a demi-eagle couped or, wings endorsed sable, semee of trefoils slipped of the first, and holding in the beak a trefoil slipped vert (Pretor). Motto - 'Amor Patriæ'." Robert was born on the 7th day of October in 1867 in England. He was educated at Eton College and married Violet Mary Baskerville Mynors on June 2nd, 1892. He was a Late Temp. Captain in the Army and Justice of the Peace in 1924. Robert lived at The Grange, Somerton, Somerset and at Somerton-Erleigh, Somerset during his life. Robert and Violet had one son and one daughter.
